The famed Dr. Shirokov returns to his hometown to take care of his sick father. Shirokov visits him in the hospital and runs in to his university friend – Louisa Filatova who had recently been promoted to Head of the Maternity Ward. She tells Roman that another of their university pals- Lev Kvitko, is also working at the hospital. Later that night an ambulance rushes the mayors’ daughter, who has gone into labor, to the hospital. Due to complications Louisa is forced to call Shirokov and beg him to come to the hospital. Shirokov manages to save the mayors daughter and her child. The Mayor urges the Head Doctor Savchuk to employ Shirokov at all cost. Louisa delivers a child from a woman that has been rushed to the hospital straight from her own wedding. Roman agrees to stay if they let him study reproductive endocrinology.

Lev Kvitko is not as enthusiastic about opening a Fertility Clinic as Roman. Nadezhda Stavitskaya has to deliver a dire diagnosis to patient Oganezova and suggest abortion. Roman doubts Nadezhda’s competence but Bondarev defends her. Roman insists on inner womb surgery but Oganezova favors abortion as the fetus has a rare pathology. At the same time a young woman is admitted to the hospital who attempted to discontinue her pregnancy at home. Shirokov saves the prematurely born child. But the woman leaves the child in the hospital. The child is then adopted by a family with many children.

The lead singer of the popular band “Diamonds” is admitted to the hospital with internal bleeding. The producer forces Angela into abortion to save her carrier. Shirokov pleads with her not to consent. Zabolotin agrees to forge documents in order to postpone the abortion. Savchuk refuses to back Roman as the producer has connections to some important people. Roman looks for the starlet’s fiancé. The producer threatens Shirokov but Inna Rogovaya records the conversation on her phone.

Shirokov is assigned an intern- Andrey Dibenko. A girl comes to Shirokov for an appointment and it is revealed that she is from the same town as the intern. The personnel are confused- she comes for her ultrasound with different “fathers”. Roman finds out that in order to stay in town she went out with two men at the same time. The child is from one of them. The boyfriends leave her when they find out the truth. The patient almost dies in labor. The only one who comes to her rescue is the intern. One of the boyfriends forgives the girl. Vita Igorevna is happy- Dumanskiy returns to her.

Roman is shocked by Bondarev because he suddenly breaks away from his usual polite behavior and yells at a patient almost giving her a hypertensive crisis. After talking to the woman he finds that she is obsessed with the idea of cloning her dead son. Shirokov explains that this is impossible. He suggests artificial insemination. Savchuk has a dilemma- if the 50 year old woman manages to give birth to a child- the experiment will be world renowned but if there are complications- she risks to lose it all. Bondarev and Dumansky try their best to meddle with Romans affairs. The woman’s sister interferes accusing Roman of inhumanity and greed… But after a series of complications the woman gives birth to a healthy baby. Roman’s colleagues congratulate him on a job well done.

Dumansky tells Vitja that he is going to be promoted shortly. Lisa is jealous of Roman and Stavitskaya. Shirokov saves a woman in critical condition but she has a miscarriage. The patient writes a complaint to the attorney’s office. The detective forbids Roman to practice surgery. Romans colleagues come to his defense. A month later another patient with the same diagnosis is brought into ER. It is found out that she is the detective’s wife. Roman performs surgery and saves her life.

The fertility clinic gets a request from a wealthy man named Georgy Revchuk. His young wife does not want to give birth and they are looking for a surrogate. This seems like an opportunity for Tatyana Ohrimenko- her husband needs fast money to bay back a debt. But Tatyana disappears and when she comes back the doctors are shocked to find that the development of the fetus does not match the time of conception. Shirokov realizes that she had a miscarriage. She has gotten pregnant from her husband and wants to keep the baby. Vitya tells Stavitskaya: Lisa is in love with Roman. Stavitskaya is not too happy about this.

Lisa asks Roman to give his new patient every attention whose mother is a good friend of hers. Shirokov has an appointment with a 15 year old girl who insists that she became pregnant after being raped. Her mother abandoned the girl and left the country with her new husband. The Aunt, with whom the girl is living, demands she make an abortion. But it is too late. The girl gives birth to a child and decides to leave it in the hospital- she has nowhere to go. But Shirokov tracks down the father who turns out to be the girl’s classmate. The girl is taken in by a new family. Roman, Lisa and Lev want to celebrate the successful ending of this story and commemorate their graduation. But the party is disrupted by another scheme from Dumansky and results in a serious conversation with the Head Doctor.

A couple arrives from France- Lera and Jacque. The wife is Russian- she studied with Lisa, Lev and Roman. The husband is French. They are looking for a surrogate mother who would carry their child. They finally have a baby daughter. The couple disowns her in order to adopt her because that is the only way they can take her back to France where the practice of surrogate birth is forbidden. But Lera dies in a car crash. The husband refuses to adopt. Filatova adopts baby Valery. Roman is touched by her decision and it brings them closer together much to the jealousy of Savitskaya. Vita considers Lev’s behavior stupid, she only notices Dumansky and he doesn’t notice the condescending way he treats her.

A 37 year old woman comes to Shirokov. She has a loving husband but no children. The husband has a son from his first marriage. He is 18. A series of tests reveals that there is nothing physically wrong with her. The husband is also healthy and it is unclear why they can’t conceive. The woman breaks down crying- she feels cursed. She is sure that her husband’s ex-wife cursed her. This scandalous woman shows up in the hospital, draws strange symbols on the walls and Vita is sure that this is the reason behind the trouble they have been having. Shirokov is undeterred by these superstitions. He requests the husband get a fertility test. The husband is healthy! What is going on here? Shirokov uncovers that the husband is an officer and he sent another soldier in his place. In reality he is sterile… Lev finds out about Lisa’s and Roman’s relationship. Stavitskaya accepts Bondareko’s invitation to go on a date.

There is a young pretty woman at the reception of Doctor Shirokov. She is pregnant and therefore happy. But her husband does not want to let her go on the sea vacation with her girlfriend. Shirokov does not see this as a problem. Roman continues to inconspicuously pay special attention to Nadezhda. Lisa can’t put it past her to deal with the relationship. Vita makes it clear to Lev that she is only interested in Dumansky. Upon her return patient discovers a wound on her arm, which does not heal. Alina remembers accidently pricking herself with a dirty syringe, grabbing it out of the hands of a child. The HIV test is positive. Her husband abandons her. The authorities don’t want to have an HIV positive woman giving birth in their hospital. But Shirokov is not used to giving up.

A 14-year-old girl comes to Shirokov. Shirokov diagnoses amenorrhea. He suspects a psychological nature of the disease. He decides to leave the girl in the hospital in order to reduce her stress. Through the window she sees her stepfather, a wealthy businessman, driving up to the hospital. But he didn’t come to see his daughter. The reason for his visit is different. His young mistress is going to give birth here. Businessman thinks that it is his child. But the mistress has a boyfriend who is the real father and moreover he doesn’t want to give his child away. Girl hopes that her stepfather is not going to leave them for a new wife, but in vain. Savchuk takes control over childbirth of businessman’s mistress. Dumansky makes a mistake, which Roman now has to correct. Roman and Lev talk openly. Roman confesses that his is worried about his affair with Lisa.

Mar’jana Rubljova, a young wife of an architect, comes to Shirokov. But Shirokov is forced to disappoint them since her tests showed unsatisfying results. The woman has to stay in the hospital throughout her entire pregnancy. Fjodor Rubljov does not leave her side. Vita Igorevna is impressed by his attitude whereas Dumansky considers him a henpecked husband. Lisa and Roman are still together even though their relationship problems become more and more visible. When Lisa offers him to meet Roman refers to his busy timetable. Stavitskaja and Vita notice complications in the relationship and begin to discuss them. Mariana is put in the room together with a drug addict Rita Solovei. She steels Marianas son after her child was born dead. Rublyov rescues the boy but dies of a heart attack.

Mother of a young woman comes to Shirokov. Her daughter suffers under paralysis of the lower extremities caused by a spinal cord injury which she received in a car accident. Young woman is afraid that she can never have children. Mother is begging Shirokov to find the way out of this frustrating situation. Roman understands that having a child will allow this girl to feel not disables but fulfilled, especially since her husband is willing to support her. But the test results are upsetting. Bondaryov accuses Roman of incompetence. Mother agrees to become a surrogate mother of her daughter’s child. But despite the hormone therapy her childbearing functions are significantly weakened due to her age. Colleagues criticize him, but Roman succeeds.

Shirokov treats a 30-year old woman who is infertile. The cause of infertility is her husband (Polikarpov), some time ago he insisted on an abortion, which did not go well. After some time another pregnant woman comes to an appointment to Shirokov. She is the new wife of Polikarpov. During the examination it turns out that Pokarpov is sterile. It is unclear who is the father of his new wife’s child. Polikarpov finds out that his new wife cheated on him with his business partner. The story ends unexpectedly. Polikarpov turns out to be the father of a child. An intern accidently mixed the test results. Kvitko is panicking, as he does not know how to tell Polikarpov about this. Vita says that in the near future Dumansky will get promoted due to his connestions.

Conflict between Roman and Bondaryov is increasing. One is jealous. Dumansky worsens the situation. A beautiful lady who seems familiar comes to and appointment to Shirokov. She is married to a man who is a widower. They live in a village together with his daughter. They want to have a child but something is wrong. It turns out that she was using drugs when she worked in an escort service. These circumstances are the reason for the current problems. Her former lover exposes her. Drugs are missing in the maternity ward. Romans patient is under suspicion. Her husband gains awareness of the situation. But the real thief is found soon enough. Romans patient comes to say goodbye. She is leaving. She is sure of the fact that her husband will never forgive her. But she is mistaken. Daughter and husband come to the hospital looking for her.

Stavitskaja suspects a dangerous membrane tear by one of the Shirokovs patients. Roman suggests a test to Tonja. He wants to examine a possible leakage of amniotic fluids. The test is positive. Shirokov decides to artificially cause water breaking. Savchuk is against it as this is a risky experimental method. Roman discusses the procedure with a couple and they agree to it, signing consent. Despite complications, Shirokov saves womans and her childs lives. Husband of a second pregnant woman offers Shirokov a bribe, asking him to kill the baby with a Down syndrome. Roman beats Oleg up, but his colleagues justify his actions.

Shirokov supervises a pregnancy of a woman who became pregnant with a great deal of difficulty, with the help of artificial insemination. But she has to go to prison for financial crimes of her boss for whom she used to work as an accountant. In order to save the child Shirokov arranges her stay in the hospital under the supervision of prison guards. The baby is born. Shirokov and Stavitskaja become childs godparents. The patient is acquitted. Lev admits his love to Vita.

Stavitskaja tells Roman about her collaboration work with Bondaryov in Libya. A pregnant woman who was hit by a truck is delivered to the hospital. The driver brought her and claims that she threw herself in front of his car. Shirokov proves to the police that if Ruslan had waited for the ambulance the woman and her child would be dead. The driver donates blood in order to save the woman. He is taken into custody right after. The patient falls in love with Ruslan and she is doing everything in order for him to get acquitted.

Helena, a 45-year old woman comes to Shirokov. She got married not a long time ago and has been pregnant for 16 weeks now. Her husbands’ daughter is also pregnant and her husband Kostja is setting her against Helena. Kostja buys the wrong ultrasound results from a private clinic, which state that the child has Down syndrome. Helena brings the ultrasound results to Shirokov and insists on abortion. Bondaryov and even Stavitskaja try to convince Shirokov to allow the abortion. Kvitko proposes to test the amniotic fluid. The baby is healthy. Julia and Helena give birth at the same time. Kostja is lying to Julia – he is a marriage swindler. Michael now becomes the one and only support for his women.

A stout woman of 30 years comes to Shirokov. After finding out that she is a janitor Albert asks Shirokov to examine her, as it becomes clear for him that such patient will not be able to pay a bribe. Roman finds a bed in a hospital for her. The woman needs thorough examination. She is put in the same room with Olga who is a modern emancipated woman. Olga and Serkova get along very well. Lisa gets into a fight with the father as instead of looking after Valery he is flirting with the baby’s nanny. Stavitskaja is performing an ultrasound for Taja. She discovers that her baby has a heart failure. Dumansky promises Savchuk to get in touch with the Moscow cardio center. But he doesn’t keep his promise. Roman asks a famous heart surgeon Davidian to perform the operation. Davidian agrees to perform a fetal surgery but a big amount of money is needed to transport the patient to a metropolitan hospital. When there is almost no hope left Olgas huband Sergey brings the money. Surgery is successful.

A 30-year old teacher Aida Nesterenko requires a referral for abortion. Shirokov explains to her that first she needs to do some tests. Dumansky agreed on the abortion but Shirokov was able to stop the process in time as Aidas results showed absolute contraindications for abortion. Bondaryov proposes to Stavitskaja. She is trying to find the right words that will not offend her old friend and mentor. Aida stays in the hospital. A premature newborn boy is delivered to the hospital. His father Grigory is always by his side. His mother ran away with another man. Grigory becomes a plumber in the hospital in order to stay closer to his son. He is protecting Aida from a high school student who raped a woman and offers a solution that surprises both Shirokov and Savchuk.

A newborn baby is found on the stairway. The police promised to deal with the fact, but meanwhile an absolutely healthy girl stays at Filatovas department. Dianas and Linas waters break at the same time. Complications emerge during Dianas delivery. The boy has a fractured collarbone as a result. Sofia gives birth to a weak little girl who will soon die of a multiple organ failure. Roman is hoping to start a relationship with Stavitskaja, but in vain. Sofia and her husband decide to adopt the foundling. However shortly after Bogdan comes to the hospital and claims to be foundlings father. He demands his daughter back. Dumansky is back from vacation.

A 14-year old pregnant Karina is brought to Shirokov. The director of the “Raduga” orphanage does not leave her side. Karina left alone with Roman pleads to save her and her child. Meeting of a medical and social committee starts at the hospital. The committee found out that after another shoot Karina was sent into a mental hospital where she had a three months treatment with psychotropic drugs. Roman consults Kvitko and Filatova. They learn that the hospital always spared children from orphanages and that the psychotropic drugs were prescribed only formally. Inna Rogovaya publishes a scandal article. Director of “Raduga” is taken into custody. Two months later Karina gives birth to a girl. Suddenly there is a woman in the hospital who is willing to adopt Karina and her child.

Pregnant women in a serious condition are delivered to the hospital. All of them are activists of “Closer to nature” movement. Kvitko supervises Tanjas childbirth. But the baby is born dead after the failed try to give birth at home. Kvitko is worried out of his mind and gets drunk. He receives a warning from Savchuk. His friends help him to get out of this situation. Davidian arrives at the hospital with his assistant Nina. She turns out to be Romans ex wife. Roman and Nina are having an open talk. Stavitskaja is jealous. Stavitskaja learns that Nina will lead the workshops. Stavitskaja feels uncomfortable and cannot decide if she should participate in them or not. Shirokov gives an interview in which he criticizes the members of “Closer to nature” movement. As a result a girl who pretended to be his patient attacks him. Ironically, leader of “Closer to Nature” movement Marianna Lipetskaja is delivered to the hospital in a bad condition.

Bondaryov has a daughter who can’t get pregnant for the past 3 years. He asks Stavitskaja to perform an ultrasound for her. Polycystic is revealed during the ultrasound. His daughter needs Romans help but Bonaryov is not yet ready to turn to Shirokov for help. An American Lala comes to the hospital complaining of a sharp pain. She is the owner of an under construction entertainment center “Babylon”. She fascinates many; including and intern who hospitalizes her despite her good test results. Lala disappears from the hospital, giving all the rights over to her loved one Vova. Vova himself thought to full Lala around but she turned out to be a world-class con artist. Because of the money stolen by Lala, Vova and his pregnant girlfriend Masha are attacked by the security of another businessman who was also deceived by Lala. Vita Igorevna is worried about intern and asks Filatova to talk to him. Nina and Roman have a serious talk.

Ambulance delivers a 12-year old pregnant girl Asja. Shirokov supervises her childbirth. Baby is born viable. Asja tells Dumasky that she was raped by her stepfather Valera. The investigation begins. The detective comes to the hospital and says that the stepfather denies the wrongdoing and is ready for any kind of examination to prove that Asja lied. DNA test is assigned to determine paternity of a stillborn child. Asjas father comes to the hospital but he can’t take her home as his new wife is expecting a baby. DNA test results are a bombshell. Valera is not the father of her dead child. Asja admits that in the reality her neighbors raped her – two 15-year old boys from the next-door, Gena and Serjozha. Valera is free and all charges are removed. Tat’jana takes Asja home. Valera left her.

Lisa is shocked. Jacque came with the intention to take Valery away. Filatova is determined not to give the girl away. In the hospital hallway two school friends meet – Agata and Ljudmila. Agata used to be a budding poet, but now she has an alcohol problem. Agata has been pregnant many times already but she practically kills her own babies by drinking too much. Ljudmila is expecting her fourth child. Her husbands business does not go well. Sergey persuades his wife to cut the tubes to not be able to give birth anymore. Shirokov is not fond of Sergeys idea. But he is cutting Agatas tubes saving her life, she begs him not to let her kill another unborn child.

A 45-year old business lady Irina comes to Shirokov. She is willing to get pregnant. Roman offers her an IVF program. In the hospital Irina meets her ex husband Oleg and his new wife. They are awaiting tweens. Dumansky continues treatment of Bondaryovs daughter, but there is no effect. Oleg dies in a car crash. His business partners threaten Anastasija. Nastjas mother insist on abortion. Irina refuses the IVF program but decides to support the mother of Olegs children.

Natalia and Victor are at Shirokovs office – they are a couple. The woman is expecting a baby but Shirokov notices that they are unhappy. Victor drinks and beats his wife. A week later a brain hemorrhage is discovered. Tat’jana is at intensive care station. But her pregnancy is not terminated. Doctors try to prolong the pregnancy and the woman’s life for at least another one hundred sixty eight hours. This is how long it takes to prepare babys lungs for independent breathing. Tat’janas former coach Maslov comes to Roman. He claims to be childs father. DNA test is required. But it is clear that Victor will no longer be willing to live if he loses his child.

Shirokov is outraged by the work of the consultation center for women at the city hospital. Incorrect ultrasound results lead to incorrect diagnoses, and pregnant women then are predisposed to abortion. Dumansky blames Savchuk for weakness and claims that Roman Shirokov is the reason for all of the problems in the hospital. Anton Panin comes to Shirokov. He is Stasjas widower. She was Shirokovs patient. She turned to another reproduction center after Roman refused to repeat her IVF. She died of ovarian hyper stimulation. But her genetic material is in a coldstore of the hospital. Anton asks Roman to try and fertilize Stasjas egg with the help of a surrogate mother. But Stasias grandmother Sofia Sergeevna is convinced of Antons dishonest intentions. She is trying to prove them to Olga, who is the surrogate mother. But Olga is in love with Anton.

Kvitko’s ex wifes mother dies. He needs to go to the funeral. Lev asks Vita Igorevna to look after his daughter Anfisa. Dumansky finds Anfisa alone at Vitas office and reports this fact to Filatova. Shirokov and Stavitskaja are in love. Vinarova Elena and her husband Wilen come to the hospital. Elena is in the last month of pregnancy. Bondarjov is forced to admit her, despite the fact that woman was supervised in another hospital. Couple signs an agreement about partnership pregnancy. Wilen is being over caring checking all of his wifes test results. Hospital staff is irritated by his actions. Vita Igorevna know Wilen from the past times. She remembers having an unpleasant accident with him. During his wifes delivery Wilen threatens Stavitskaja with a scalpel. But Shirokov is able to stop him.

Shirokov and Stavitskaja want to get married. But they plan their marriage quietly without making a fuss about it. Nadja can’t keep a secret and tells Vita Igorevna about the marriage. As a result everyone is informed. A gypsy music band arrives at the hospital to congratulate the newlyweds. Front singers name is Galina, her water breaks. But Galina is not the only concern. Her daughter needs a caesarean due to the worsening of appendicitis. Surgery is successful and Zarina gives birth to a girl. But Galina can’t share her daughters’ happiness. Her ex lover is a father of a newborn girl.

Bondaryov is still upset about Shirokovs and Stavitskajas marriage. He is pointedly ignoring Roman. Filatova is accused of bribery as someone puts money into her drawer. Filatova is fired and Dumansky takes her position over. The entire team is convinced that Dumansky arranged this substitute. The Bogdanovs want to have a girl with help of IVF. The wife is a carrier of hemophilia. Shirokov and Kvitko want to help. But the first attempt fails. The second attempt is too expensive. A childhood friend of Anna Bogdanova and her husband decide to sponsor second IVF. They are willing to have a boy.

Filatovas lawyer is trying to convince her to put forward a counter-claim against the dummy patient. But Lisa refuses. Surrogate mother Lidia turns out to be a mistress of a biological father of the child – professor Pavel Ermolov. His wife Victoriya is aware of the affair and hopes that as soon as the baby is born her hudbands midlife crisis will end and he will break up with Lidia. But Lidia, in turn, thinks that Pavel will leave his wife for her after the childbirth. Ambulance brings a young student Natalia to the hospital. She is giving birth to the tweens. Their father is Pavel Ermolov. Lidia finds out about the student and having a breakdown tells Viktoriya the truth. Pavel is the father of her 3-year old son. Childbirth begins one month ahead of the schedule due to the stress level surrogate mother was having.

Roman has to work on the eve of his birthday. Dumansky asked Shirokov to substitute him in the maternity ward. A strange rude young man brings a pregnant woman to the hospital. She is in a bad condition. Roman diagnoses placental abruption and gives a command to prepare the surgery. Roman wants to call an anesthesiologist but Volkov threatens him with a gun and demands an immediate operation. Vita Igorevna recognizes a bank robber in him. She has seen his photo in the news. Kvitko is able to call the police. Volkov losses too much blood and faints. Savchuk calls the team for a meeting. Colleagues congratulate Shirokov to his birthday.

Roman comes into the surgery and is stunned. Some strangers are pulling the wires and setting the lights. Filatova explains to him that Savchuk has an agreement with a reality show. They are going to film childbirth. Main characters of the show are Katja Kuznezova and Sergey Kuznetsov. Director Eva requires Stavitskaja to do the ultrasound the way it looks better in a camera and not the proper way it’s usually done. Dumansky feels comfortable with the cameras around him. The ambulance brings Katja back to the hospital at night. But her husband is not by her side. Editor Olya, who turned out to be Katja’s sister, came with her. Eva insists on calling Dumansky – she is not pleased with a sudden change of the doctor. But Roman starts the surgery, not paying attention to the shameless girl. A goodbye between the doctor and a “happy family” is the last scene to be taken. All of a sudden a man runs into the hallway. He is a real fiancé. Eva is delighted – she could not have imagined a better ending.

Patient Dana is at 8th week of pregnancy and is delivered to the hospital with bleeding. She kept her pregnancy from her young husband Alexey, but he found out. This child is not his and he does not want to keep it. Shirokov has to admit that he can’t reason the bleeding. Roman prescribes Diana all of the necessary treatment to stop bleeding and save the child. He is guessing that Dana’s best friend Vlada gave her “Postinor”. She wanted to take revenge as she used to be in love with Alexey. Dana is shocked – she had not only lost her husband but also her best friend. But the child was saved. Roman accompanies Dana to the exit. Real father Zhenja is waiting for Dana at the stairway.

Tat’jana comes to Shirokov. She is feeling sick in the morning, her period is gone, and she is confidant that she is pregnant. But she is wrong. In fact her twin sister Tinja is pregnant. Kvitko and a psychologist tell Roman about the “twin phenomenon”. Identical twins have a strong almost telepathic relationship. Tat’jana understands that her sister got pregnant from her boyfriend Maxim. He did not realize that he was having a date with a twin sister. Tat’jana dramatically changes her image, as she does not want to have anything in common with her sister. But she feels that something is wrong. She goes to the hospital. Tat’jana saves Tonjas life. Tonja decided to poison herself. Sisters make up with each other. Maxim is gone.

Roman and Stavitskaja are expecting a baby. Vita Igorevna tells Nadja that she is getting married to Kvitko. Shirokov is under shock. The results of ultrasound show that his patient is pregnant with 5 babies. Ljudmila stays in the hospital. Savchuk and physicians consult with their foreign colleagues. This is the first time throughout their practice that they face such case. Ljudmila and Kostja have nowhere to live together. Kostja lives with his mother in a tiny apartment. Ljudmila comes from the village. One of the mayoral candidates decides to PR himself and promises a unique mother a flat. At the day of discharge his assistant appears and instead of a promised apartment the parents get a sewing machine. But Ljudas relatives from the villages make them a present; they chipped in for the flat in the city. Savchuk and her colleagues promise to support the young family.
